The lists of available fonts are regenerated upon executing the applications the next time. You can fix such a problem by exiting all Adobe applications and then searching for and deleting all files with the name AdobeFnt#.lst where # is a 0 to 2 digit number. (4) Assuming you did actually delete the font files that you don't want available and displayed in the applications' list of fonts, there may be a lack of synchronization between the Adobe font name caching mechanism and the reality of what you have installed. If you don't actually deletethe underlying font files, the Adobe applications still “see” the fonts. (3) MacOS Font Book is not a font manager that would allow selective activation or deactivation of a font in terms of what the Adobe applications see. If you have such a “font manager” installed, it should do the trick for you. (2) There are third party “font managers” that run under MacOS that coordinate with the Adobe creative applications to allow selective activation or deactivation of fonts. In some of the applications, fonts are listed in groups based upon the fonts' internal declaration of language support, but there is no function for disabling fonts either individually or by attribute. (1) No Adobe application has any internal controls that allow the user to selectively hide fonts from the applications' lists of available fonts.

Just open a folder, select a font, and type the spacebar. Font Book is bare bones, but in conjunction with Finder QuickView and drag and drop, font management is not really that difficult if you keep your uninstalled fonts accessible.

I used to be a BIG FAN of font management software (Suitcase originally, since back when it was owned by Fifth Generation Systems and Font Explorer when it was free) until it became apparent that Apple was going to keep modifying the underlying OS to make keeping up with updates a pain in the you know where.
When removing a font, delete it from the All Fonts collection and not the custom collection (which doesn't actually remove a font, it just removes the reference to it from the collection.) You can use Font Book to organize your fonts by creating "Collections" (just click the + at the bottom left of the screen then drag the fonts you want in that collection directly into the collection's "window". The name of the app has changed to Typelight, but it still works as described in that article. When you get everything ready, you can select the entire contents of the folder and drag them into Font Book (you'll have to be patient while FB validates all your fonts.)įor those fonts you have problems with validating (and there will probably be a few), there may be a way to repair them: You'll do yourself a favor if you gather them altogether in a single folder. You'll need to "uninstall" the fonts in FE-X first.

You're better off in the long run using Font Book and on the upside, you can install a multiple selection from the Finder.
that's going to make converting over very tedious. Since you're using FontExplorer, I can pretty much guess you have a ton of fonts and probably in "a million" different locations. You might have to wait for the next update to FontExplorer, but I recommend that you use Font Book instead. If all you other applications work with FontExplorer, FCPX should too. You will be asked if you want to delete preferences. Have you tried deleting Preferences for FCPX? Hold down the Command and Option keys as you start up FCPX. Motion would probably be affected as well.
